Acquisition for the HEAVE HO documentary began today, on time, with an excursion along the Niagara River.
Hello, and welcome to the official HEAVE HO documentary blog where you will find out the latest info on the project, straight from the producer (jpw).
After months of figuring and a little bit of planning, the acquisition phase of production began with a 1 p.m. private vessel excursion on the Mighty Niagara, scouting out the source of the River at Lake Erie.
Weather forecasts were iffy, at best, after a rare tornado touched down only a few miles away yesterday afternoon . . . but the scene ameliorated aside from a few choppy waves. Captain and crew gave the best possible ride under the conditions, with a little time for kicking back off Grand Island (temps were hovering in the mid-80s).
Acquisition in 1080i showed the early summer at its peak, with a full month of shooting ahead. Since the website is just getting off the ground, we probably will not have the amenity of dailies, but imagine the thrill of striding along the same flow that reaches the brink of the Falls, directly at its start, with a clip of the current always there. The finished HEAVE HO product will hint at that reality, and all the true impact of what carved the Niagara Gorge, in widescreen realism.
